Hi everyone,
A huge thank you for the overwhelming response to last month's release, Moon Over Kapan, study #48 of The Runes of Wabi Sabi which sold out in 48 hours. Immensely gratifying to know that it's struck a chord in so many, and mostly, thank you for sharing the stories of your moons, triggered a thousand thoughts and filled me up with inspiration.
I spent most of the month waiting for negatives in Paris and Tbilisi to be shipped to me and am now having a blissful time in the darkroom working on the images I shot three summers ago in China. It actually gave me the chance to properly re-live quite a remarkable trek up an off-book trail and camping atop the Great Wall, yes, that Great Wall. A once in a lifetime adventure. Thanks ADK for prompting me to take a second look at these negatives. Working on these negatives did kick off a serious case of wanderlust though and I'd be lying if I said the current state of travel restrictions isn't making me acutely restless.
Trying to talk myself out of the doldrums, I challenged myself to visually rediscover the city I grew up in. This has led me to taking early dawn and sunset photowalks around Singapore, a country which has changed dramatically since my childhood, in search of a feeling.
The modern Singapore I've been photographing this time round is a reminder of how quickly things can change in life. As it happens, General Elections had just suddenly been called by the ruling party, the People's Action Party, ostensibly on the thesis that in times of fear, people tend to vote for the incumbents. Singaporeans gave the PAP only 61 percent of the popular vote, its lowest showing since the party took power in 1959. It should not be lost on the observer that the PAP garnered 90 percent of the seats in Parliament. The opposition contested admirably but the most notable result for me was that quite uncharacteristically, the current Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, the eldest son of Singapore's founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, conceded that it was clear the people wanted a greater opposition voice in Parliament and conferred on Pritam Singh of the Worker's Party the role of Opposition Leader, a first in Singapore's modern history. This magnanimous gesture caught me completely off guard. Change is in the air, who knows how Singapore will look and feel in another decade. As always, feel free to hit me up at email@yeahyeahkevin.com or on Instagram @yeahyeahkevin about anything, even if it's to say hi and introduce yourself or catch-up, I'm always looking to (re)connect, for feedback and inspiration, stories to share, I really enjoy hearing from people.
Best,
Kevin

#49 Studies of THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA
Beijing, China, 2017. I was driven four hours northeast of the touristic Badaling section of the Great Wall by my guide. We were headed to an unsanctioned section of the Great Wall, our plan was to hike up after lunch, camp overnight on the Wall, return the next morning. When we arrived at the staging area, the the skies opened up and our ascent was to be delayed by almost two hours. We trekked hard to make up for the lost time, I was thankful for the rain, it was mid-Summer, average temperatures hovered around 38°C. The real payoff for enduring the soggy climb was this view when we reached the top. My guide remarked that he had never seen it this clear, the rain must have cleared the pollution up. I shot three of the six sheets of film I had, the fog that you see is really condensation. I'm grateful for these shots, the confluence of several lucky accidents. I'll have more Great Wall of China studies coming, just need more time in the darkroom to work on the other negatives.

#51 and #52 Studies of MODERN SINGAPORE
Downtown, Singapore, 2020. It started drizzling on my photowalk around the Financial District and Marina Bay. When the tropical shower passed, I set up and took this shot trying to capture the quality of the reflections in the water. I took twelve shots in this study of the modern downtown Singapore that morning, so I'll have more cityscapes to come.

RECOMMENDED FRAMING
I recommend framing the photos within thin black square frames, a white matte board with a border of 2 inches on the narrower side to let the image breathe. The square frames are particularly suitable if you're building a collection of my work to account for the various formats 8x10, 10x8, 8x8 that the prints come in.
Signature block on back is stamped, titled, signed and numbered
