Based on the lunar cycle, the Chinese Zodiac assigns an animal to each year on a repeating 12 year cycle. I was born in the Year of the Horse. Apparently my Lucky Numbers are 2, 3, 7. Lucky Colors: brown, yellow, purple. Lucky Flowers: calla lily, jasmine, marigold. Lucky Directions: northeast, southwest and northwest. These are symbols I hope to incorporate in this motif-inspired quite frivolous series that gives me an excuse to photograph these beautiful creatures. I prefer the "wilder" horses, rather than the "prettier" ones that have been bred for dressage and more refined purposes, maybe one day I'll be able to express why the latter don't appeal more to me. Ultimately, I'd love to photograph herds of wild horses though I'm reliably told by colleagues that it's no mean feat with a large format film camera. But that's where I'm heading.
